LEGOLAND Florida Tips: Perfect for Kids Under 12

Every family debates Disney vs Universal. Almost nobody talks about LEGOLAND Florida — which is exactly why families with kids under 12 should go there first. It's less crowded, cheaper, and more age-appropriate than any other Orlando park for young children.
Why LEGOLAND Works for Kids 3–12
Universal Orlando has minimum height requirements of 48" for its best rides. Disney has long waits and expensive Lightning Lane. LEGOLAND is built specifically for kids who are too young for the big thrills but too old to be content with simple playground equipment.
Every ride at LEGOLAND involves interactive elements — buttons to push, levers to control, missions to complete. Kids aren't passive passengers; they're participants. The LEGO Movie World expansion (featuring Movie Maker, Unikitty Disco Drop, and Battle of Bricksburg) is particularly excellent for ages 5–10.
The Best Rides for Different Ages
Ages 3–5: Duplo Valley water play area, LEGO City Driving School (kids literally drive their own cars), Heartlake City Quest
Ages 6–10: The Dragon coaster, Coastersaurus, LEGO Movie World, Ninjago: The Ride
Ages 10–12: All the above plus the Flying School suspended coaster, which provides the most genuine thrill at the park
Go on Weekdays — Crowds Are Minimal
LEGOLAND Florida draws almost no tourists on weekday mornings during the school year. September through November weekdays, you can walk onto nearly every ride. This is a stark contrast to Disney's Magic Kingdom, which hits 60%+ capacity on random Tuesday mornings.
The Water Park Combo
Adjacent to LEGOLAND is LEGOLAND Water Park, a separate-ticket water park with a lazy river, wave pool, and LEGO-themed slides. The combo ticket (LEGOLAND + Water Park) is the best value: spend the morning at the theme park and the afternoon cooling off at the water park. Book it through TicketsGator for additional savings versus gate price.
Interactive Build Stations
Scattered throughout LEGOLAND are "Build and Test" stations where kids can construct LEGO cars and race them, build boats, or compete on challenges. These aren't just decorations — kids legitimately spend 20–30 minutes at each one. Plan extra time; your child will not want to leave.
LEGOLAND 1-Day tickets start at $69 per adult through TicketsGator — compared to $109 at the gate. Book LEGOLAND tickets here. The savings alone could fund your kids' next LEGO set.
