SeaWorld vs Busch Gardens: Which Park Should You Visit?

SeaWorld and Busch Gardens are the two underrated parks in the Orlando-area ecosystem. Both are owned by SeaWorld Entertainment, both offer combo tickets, and both are significantly cheaper than Universal or Disney. But they serve different purposes and require a real logistics decision.
The Logistics Reality
SeaWorld Orlando is on International Drive — 15 minutes from Universal, 20 minutes from Disney. It slots easily into any Orlando itinerary as a half-day or full-day add-on.
Busch Gardens Tampa is 75 miles west of Orlando. Driving there takes 60–90 minutes depending on I-4 traffic. It's a full-day commitment with its own hotel market.
Bottom line: If you're based in Orlando, SeaWorld is the easy add-on. Busch Gardens requires either a separate Tampa day or staying a night on the west coast of Florida.
Roller Coaster Comparison
If coasters are your primary motivation, Busch Gardens wins — but it's closer than you'd think.
| Coaster | Park | Height | Speed | |---------|------|--------|-------| | Cheetah Hunt | Busch Gardens | 102 ft | 60 mph | | Tigris | Busch Gardens | 150 ft | 62 mph | | SheiKra | Busch Gardens | 200 ft | 70 mph | | Mako | SeaWorld | 200 ft | 73 mph | | Ice Breaker | SeaWorld | 93 ft | 52 mph | | Pipeline | SeaWorld | 110 ft | 60 mph |
Mako at SeaWorld is actually taller and faster than anything at Busch Gardens. SeaWorld's Pipeline is a unique coaster type not found at BGT. Both parks have excellent coaster lineups; Busch Gardens has more of them.
Animal Experiences
Both parks invest heavily in animal exhibits and education, but the nature of the experiences differs.
SeaWorld Orlando centers on marine and arctic animals: orcas, dolphins, sea lions, penguins, sharks. The exhibits are close-up and interactive. Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin is a genuine standout — you're feet from real penguins throughout the queue and attraction.
Busch Gardens Tampa is more like a traditional zoo with safari elements. The Serengeti Plain section is a large open habitat for giraffes, zebras, and rhinos you view from a safari truck. The Rhino Rally and Cheetah Hunt both incorporate animal theming into their ride narratives.
The Combo Ticket Value
SeaWorld Entertainment sells "Two Park Flex Tickets" combining both parks. If you're planning to visit both on a multi-city Florida trip (Orlando + Tampa), the combo saves approximately $30–$40 per person versus buying separately.
TicketsGator also offers SeaWorld tickets starting at $74 — significantly below gate price.
See SeaWorld Orlando tickets at TicketsGator and compare with Busch Gardens tickets. If you're only visiting one, SeaWorld wins for logistics. If you're making a Tampa day trip, Busch Gardens is the better destination park.
