2-Park Orlando Itinerary: Universal + Disney in 4 Days

The most common family Orlando debate: Universal or Disney? The best answer, for families with the time and budget, is both. This 4-day itinerary maximizes what you see at each resort without burning anyone out.
The Setup: Sunday Arrival
Fly in Sunday. Land, check in, decompress. Don't attempt a park on arrival day. Get your bearings, grab groceries, and get to bed at a reasonable hour. Monday starts early.
Days 1–2: Universal Orlando (Monday–Tuesday)
Start with Universal for a strategic reason: if you're also visiting Epic Universe, you need two full days at the Universal Resort. Allocating two days to Universal before Disney means you hit both parks fresh rather than exhausted.
Monday: Universal Studios Florida + Islands of Adventure
Morning (7:30am park open):
- Straight to Hagrid's Motorbike Adventure at Islands of Adventure — be in queue before 8am
- Velocicoaster immediately after (park-to-park, or this is your second ride if at IOA)
Midday:
- Cross to Universal Studios via Hogwarts Express if you have Park-to-Park tickets
- Diagon Alley, Escape from Gringotts, Florean Fortescue's butterbeer
Afternoon/Evening:
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, Minion Land, Springfield
Tuesday: Epic Universe
Morning: Rope drop at Epic Universe — first guests to Ministry of Magic (30-min wait at open, 180+ by 11am)
Late Morning: Super Nintendo World (Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge)
Afternoon: How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, Monster-Verse dark rides
Evening: Starfall Racers — the park's best coaster and typically shorter waits after dinner
Days 3–4: Walt Disney World (Wednesday–Thursday)
Wednesday: Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom requires a full day. Rope drop strategy:
- First: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (highest demand ride; Lightning Lane sold out by 9am)
- Then: Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean
- Afternoon: Fantasyland for families with young kids; Tomorrowland for older
- Evening: Stay for the fireworks — they start at 9pm most nights and are genuinely worth seeing
Thursday: EPCOT
EPCOT is the most underrated park for adults.
- Morning: Test Track (book Lightning Lane before arrival) and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Noon: World Showcase opens at 11am — food and drink through international pavilions
- Afternoon: Journey of Water, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure
- Evening: EPCOT's fireworks show (Harmonious) is the best in Disney's lineup
What to Prioritize If You Only Have 1 Day Each
Sometimes plans change. If you're squeezed to 1 day per resort:
1 day at Universal: Choose Islands of Adventure. Hagrid's, Velocicoaster, and Hogsmeade alone make it the better single-day park.
1 day at Disney: Choose Magic Kingdom. It has the highest density of iconic experiences.
